The DRASH D1000B Heater.Support Corner: Maintaining Your DRASH Heater During the Winter Months

The following maintenance procedures will ensure that your DRASH heater runs smoothly this winter. (Note: Never work on the heater while it’s plugged in or hot and always follow repair procedures in DRASH Technical Manual # 1002811.)

Always make sure to check the following points prior to starting the heater:

  • Ensure that both fabric covers have been removed.
  • Inspect both ends and the exhaust stack port for any debris.
  • Prior to installing heater ducts, check inside the ducts for any debris.
  • Secure by tightening strap. Minimize any bends. Keep ducts straight.
  • Verify that the fuel tank is full and that the exhaust stack is properly installed.
  • During cold weather, plug the heater in to a 120V ground power source 15 minutes prior to start up; this will allow the pre-heater to warm up the fuel filter and ease actual start up.

After every 50 hours of operation, perform the following maintenance procedures:

  • Remove, disassemble and inspect the pre-heated fuel filter.
  • Clean the fuel filter with clean fuel.
  • Remove top cover and clean the heater’s exterior.
  • Loosen and slide the maintenance access panel rearward.
  • Using compressed air, clean the interior area.
  • Clean the fan blade.
  • Check for leaks and for proper attachment of High Temp (H.T.) connectors to electrodes.
  • Remove burner assembly, clean and check electrode setting; adjust if needed.

Perform annual maintenance, including:

  • Tighten loose nuts, bolts, fittings, and connections.
  • Clean or replace the fuel filter.
  • Drain and flush the fuel tank.
  • Remove, clean, and adjust the burner assembly.
  • Replace the fuel nozzle.
